Collection criteria and changelog
The standing rules, and a dated record of every change.
Two things live here: the criteria a listing has to meet, and the log of what changed and when.
You are here to make your writing read better. Not to fool a checker. We cannot promise what a detector will say, and we do not try.
What you get here
- Scope: tools a person writing in English can use for drafting, checking, or tidying text.
- Every entry names a category and a plain-language description of what it is for.
- Every entry carries a check date, and says whether it was run here or compiled from public information.
- No entry may be included on the strength of advertising copy alone.
- No entry may be built around evading, defeating, or lowering a detection score.
- No entry may be aimed at academic dishonesty or at completing assignments for someone.
- Entries are re-checked monthly. A dead link, a withdrawn free tier, or a changed price is corrected or the entry is removed.
- Removals are recorded, not quietly deleted.
How entries are kept current
- New entries are appended with the date they were checked.
- Corrections replace the field that changed, and a line is added below with the date and what moved.
- Removals are listed with the date and a short reason.
- The criteria above are the tests; the changelog below is the history.
Common questions
How often is this toolbox updated?
Monthly, plus corrections whenever a reader points one out.
What happens when a listed tool shuts down?
It is moved out of the list and a dated line is added to the changelog saying why.
Are the criteria open to challenge?
Yes. They are written down so that a disagreement can be about a specific rule rather than about taste.
